Pensacola Opera Announces Artist in Residence For 2019-20 Season

The Florida-based Pensacola Opera has announced that pianist / coach Stephen Variames will be joining the company as Artist in Residence for the 2019-20 season.

Per the company’s Facebook page, Variames will be participating in many of the company’s community engagement performances as well as playing in rehearsals for all upcoming productions.

The company is set to showcase four operas throughout the season including two classics and two rares new operas.

“As One” will open the season at the Pensacola Little Theatre on Nov. 1,2, and 3, 2019 with Robert Wesley Mason and Elise Quagliata. The season then continues on Jan. 24, 2020 with a production of “Don Giovanni” at the Saenger Theatre, starring Corey McKern, Sarah Tucker, David Blalock, and Andrea Baker. There is a subsequent performance on Jan. 26.

On February 13, 2020, Pensacola Opera will perform “Easy to Love” at the Saenger Theatre. Featured performers include Bizhou Chang, Emily Triebold, Aaren Rivard, and Corey Gaudreau.

It all comes to a close with “Il Trovatore” on March 20 and 22, 2020 at the Saenger Theatre. Soloists include Mary Evelyn Hangley, Adam Diegel, Dennis Jesse, Renée Tatum, and Wei Wu.
