Pegasus Opera to Celebrate ‘Windrush 75’ Festival With Concert Event
By David SalazarU.K.’s Pegasus Opera is set to present a Celebration Concert on June 23, 2023 as part of the Bernie Grant Arts Centre’s “Windrush 75” Festival.
The showcase will feature gospel, spiritual, opera, musical theatre, and other songs inspired by the Black Diaspora, performed by classical singers. The works will include music by composers of African, Caribbean, and Asian heritage.
The showcase will be hosted by opera singer Ali Buchanan, who is also the Artistic Director of Pegasus Opera. She will be joined by Jamaican folk music singer Adwoa Dickinson.
The showcase will also feature extracts from the company’s new Windrush opera, which is set to tour throughout the U.K. in 2024. That work features music by Samuel Coleridge Taylor, Shirley J. Thompson, Errollyn Wallen, and Scott Joplin, among others.
