PBS to Broadcast ‘Met Stars Live in Concert’ Performances Featuring Jonas Kaufmann, Anna Netrebko, Renée Fleming, Angel Blue, Sonya Yoncheva

PBS has announced that it will be broadcasting the Met Opera’s “Met Stars Live in Concert series” throughout 2021.

All performances will be presented on PBS (check local listings for more details).

Kicking off the year-long series will be Renée Fleming’s concert from Washington D.C., in which she performed music by Puccini, Massenet, Korngold, and Handel, among others.

Broadcast Date: March 19, 2021

Next up will be Jonas Kaufmann’s parade of opera arias from Munich. The tenor performed arias from such operas as “Turandot,” “Tosca,” “Roméo et Juliette,” “L’Arlesiana,” “Andrea Chénier,” and “Carmen,” among others.

Broadcast Date: April 2, 2021

Lise Davidsen’s concert from Oslo featured music by Wagner, Puccini, Strauss, Sibelius, and Grieg, among others.

Broadcast Date: May 7, 2021

Roberto Alagna and Aleksandra Kurzak will be the next featured in the series. The duo performed arias and duets from France alongside several local musicians.

Anna Netrebko’s concert from Vienna featured music by Rachmaninoff, Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, Debussy, Fauré, and Strauss, among others.

Broadcast Date: June 18, 2021

Audiences will then get to see Joyce DiDonato perform from Bochum, Germany in a program featuring music by Handel, Monteverdi, Rodgers and Hammerstein, and a world premiere by Kenyatta Hughes. The performance featured the mezzo-soprano alongside Il Pomo d’Oro.

Next up is a concert starring Diana Damrau and Joseph Calleja from Caserta, Italy as they take on music by Verdi, Bizet, Rossini, and others.

Sonya Yoncheva’s concert from southwest Germany featured arias by Verdi and Puccini.

Broadcast Date: Sept. 3, 2021

Next up is a concert featuring Sondra Radvanovksy and Piotr Beczala from Wuppertal, Germany. The concert included several duets and arias from operas by Dvorak, Verdi, and Giordano, among others.

Broadcast Date: Oct. 1, 2021

Angel Blue’s concert is the next to be broadcast. That performance has yet to take place as of this writing.

Broadcast Date: Nov. 5, 2021

Bryn Terfel’s holiday showcase, which took place in Wales and featured several holiday favorites alongside some Welsh traditions, was recorded in December 2020.

Broadcast Date: Dec. 3, 2021 

The year comes to a close with the New Year’s Eve Gala which took place on Dec. 31, 2020 in Augsburg, Germany. This performance, which features Angel, Blue, Pretty Yende, Javier Camarena, and Matthew Polenzani, drew a great deal of controversy for its use of German artists in lieu of members of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, who remain without pay since March 2020.
