By Francisco Salazar

Paul Appleby will sing the role of Don Ottavio in tonight’s performance of Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” at the Metropolitan Opera.

The Met Opera announced that Appleby will replace Pavol Breslik, who is ill.

Appleby is no stranger to performing the role of Don Ottavio as he performed it during the 2016-17 Met Opera season. The tenor is also scheduled to perform the role on the April 15 and 18 performances.

Breslik returns to the stage for the Osterfestspiele Salzburg in Dvorak’s Stabat Mater and he will also perform in Smetana’s “The Bartered Bride” at the Semperoper Dresden.

Appleby joins a cast that includes Peter Mattei in the title role, Adam Plachetka, Serena Malfi,  Susanna Phillips, and Guanqun Yu. Cornelius Meister conducts.
