Patrick Hahn Appointed General Music Director of Wuppertaler Bühnen and Sinfonieorchester

It has been announced that Austrian pianist and conductor Patrick Hahn has been named as the Generalmusikdirektor of the Wuppertaler Bühnen and Sinfonieorchester.

At 24 years of age, Hahn is likely to be the youngest general music director in Germany. His appointment will be effective as of their 21-22 season, when he succeeds current GMD Julia Jones.

As a conductor, Hahn has performed with leading companies through Germany and Austria, such as the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony, the Bavarian State Opera, the Hamburg State Opera, and more.

Educated in the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria, Hahn has also served as a conducting fellow with the Aspen Music Festival as well as the Tanglewood Music Center.

In 2019, he worked with Kirill Petrenko to oversee the Bavarian State Opera’s new productions of “Salome” and “Die Tote Stadt.”
