Patrick Cassidy’s New Opera ‘Dante’ to Make World Premiere

“Dante,” Patrick Cassidy’s new opera is set to make its premiere on June 15 in Bavaria at the Theater Hof.

The opera is based on Dante’s “Divine Comedy,” with the libretto by Cassidy and Lothar Krause, and texts by Dante Alighieri from “Vita nuova” and “Divina Commedia.” The performance is sung in Italian with German surtitles. Prior to the premiere performance an introductory lecture takers place starting 45 minutes before curtain. Casting will be announced at a later time.

The Irish composer is known for the aria “Vide Cor Meum” in the psychological thriller “Hannibal.” At the suggestion of Reinhardt Friese, he composed his first full opera which includes the famous piece.

Cassidy’s score for the film “Calvary” was an ASCAP Film Score of the Year nominee. His newest classical work ‘The Mass’, was recorded by ‘The London Symphony Orchestra and ‘London Voices’ and was released in 2019. ‘The Mass for Choir & Organ’ was recorded at First Congregation Church Los Angeles.
