
‘Patagonia’ Receives 15 Nominations at 2023 Premios CARMEN
By David SalazarThe opera “Patagonia” has been nominated for 15 awards at the 2023 edition of Premios Carmen.
The awards are organized by the Corporación Nacional de Teatro Musical Chileno and TMD Teatro Musical Comunitario.
The opera, which is presented at Teatro del Lago in Frutillar, Chile, received nominations for best lighting, best production, best wardrobe, best sound design, best musical arrangement, best female performer (Marcela González as Xorenken), best male performer (Nicolás Fontecilla as Antonio Pigafetta, best female performer supporting (Evelyn Ramírez as Golenkon, best original libretto, best vocal direction, best original music, best musical, best original musical, best regional musical, and best director.
The chamber opera in two acts with music by Sebastián Errázuriz and libretto by Rodrigo Ossandón explores the journey of Hernando de Magallanes to South America from the American perspective. It was financed with funds from the Iberescena 2019 and Fondart 2020.
The premiere of the work starred Evelyn Ramírez, Marcela González, Nicolás Fontecilla, Sergio Gallardo, and María Paz Grandjea with Rodolfo Fischer conducting.
