PangeaNYC to Present David Sabella’s ‘Amanda Reckonwith in Residential Care’

By Logan Martell

On June 17, 2023, Pangea NYC will present operatic countertenor and leading vocal teacher David Sabella in a cabaret show titled “Amanda Reckonwith in Residential Care.”

Music directed by Mark Hartman, the show will see Sabella spoof and celebrate a number of operatic gems and moments from the era of all-male operatic group of La Gran Scena, as well as selections from Broadway, the Great American Songbook, and more.

A performer with over 30 years of experience, Sabella made history in 1995 when he was named the winner of the Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition, with the legendary tenor stopping Sabella mid-performance to declare: “I don’t have to hear to the end. This is excellent! Not good, excellent!” The following year, he originated the role of Mary Sunshine in the Broadway revival of Kander and Ebb’s “Chicago,” performing until 2004.

Formerly the president of the New York Singing Teacher’s Association and executive director of the Broadway Theatre Project, further accolades of Sabella include winning The New York Oratorio Society Competition at Carnegie Hall, the Liederkranz Competition, the daCapo Opera Competition, and the eastern finals of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.

Tickets begin at $30, with a $20 food and beverage minimum per person. The show will run the third Saturday of every month through August.
