Palm Beach Opera to Open Season with Outdoor Opera Festival

By Logan Martell

Palm Beach Opera will launch its 2020-21 season with the company’s first-ever outdoor festival, featuring live performances of “La Bohème,” “Pagliacci,” and “The Magic Flute.”

The festival will run from February 19-27, 2021, and will be held at the iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre of the South Florida Fairgrounds.

The productions will be semi-staged, and in order to maximize social distancing, the amphitheater will only seat 2,500 guests as opposed to the usual 6,000. Singers and instrumentalists will be distanced, mandatory masks and increased cleaning measures.

“We are thrilled to have reimagined and fully adapted our upcoming season to present our first-ever outdoor festival, and provide South Florida with a safe, unique, open-air opera experience, particularly after many months of uncertainty and unprecedented challenges,” said General Director David Walker in a press release. “We are proud to have been a member of this community for nearly 60 years, and we are grateful for this opportunity to give our community hope, and to help them heal through the beauty and transformative power of live music. We are more excited than ever to return to the stage.”
