By Francisco Salazar

The Palau de la Musica in Valencia has canceled concerts dated Nov. 5, 7,8, and 9, 2024 due to the tragic floodings that have left over 200 people dead.

The concert hall was set to present the Luxembourg Philharmonic on Nov. 5 and the Orquesta de Cámara de la Sociedad Filarmónica de València on Nov. 7. Meanwhile, the Orquesta de València was set to present Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with soloists Chen Reiss and Fleur Barron “Resurrección” on Nov. 8.

The cancelations come days after the Palau de les Arts canceled its performances of “La Verbena de la Paloma” due to the tragedy.

According to reports the horrific flash floods in Valencia have killed at least 205 people, with 202 of those in the hardest-hit region of Valencia. The death toll is expected to rise as emergency workers rescue those still trapped. According to authorities, roads have collapsed in some areas, with emergency services unable to get access. The tragedy has left many Valencians infuriated by both the government’s response to the disaster and the lack of warnings that such an inundation was coming.
