The Palau de Les Arts Reina Sofía has announced the cancellation of its whole run of Verdi’s “Falstaff” due to COVID-19 cases in the production team.

The opera was scheduled to take place between Jan. 21 and Jan. 31, 2021.

The opera house has stated that the detection of positive cases has been possible due to the extensive COVID-19 safety measures, which included weekly PCR tests for the soloists, the conductor, and the production team. The Palau de Les Arts Reina Sofía has added that it will decide on a possible rescheduling of the opera within the 2020-21 season.

The opera was set to star Ambrogio Maestri, Mattia Olivieri, Juan Francisco Gatell, Ainhoa Arteta, Violeta Urmana, Sara Blanch, Ana Ibarra, Jorge Rodríguez Norton, Joel Williams, and Antonio Di Matteo. James Gaffigan was signed on to conduct the production by Mario Martone.
