The Palau de les Arts has announced a cast change for its upcoming production of “Macbeth.”

The company noted that Carlos Álvarez was forced to withdraw from the title role due to illness. As a result, Luca Salsi and George Gagnidze will take over the performances. Salsi will perform the title role on March 31, April 3, and 10 while Gagnidze will sing on April 5 and 8, 2022.

Salsi most recently performed the opera at the Teatro alla Scala and the Wiener Staatsoper while Gagnizde has performed the role at the Metropolitan Opera.

Both artists join a cast that includes Anna Pirozzi, Marko Mimica, and Giovanni Sala. Michele Mariotti conducts the production by Benedict Andrews.

“Macbeth” opens on March 31 and runs through April 10, 2022.
