Pacific Opera Victoria Names New Artistic Director

The Pacific Opera Victoria has appointed Canadian opera stage director, Brenna Corner, as its next Artistic Director.

In a statement, Corner said, “I am deeply honored to have been selected to serve as the Artistic Director of Pacific Opera Victoria. Over the past four decades, Pacific Opera has established itself through its commitment both to the art form and to the community, and I am proud to contribute to this legacy and to make Victoria my home. I am thrilled to join this fantastic team of creators, artists, staff and board members with such a passion for adventurous productions and unique musical gems. Rooted in this amazing legacy, I am excited to work alongside the Pacific Opera family as we envision a bold future elevating Canada’s contribution to our art form.”

Additionally, Board President Margot McLaren Moore commented, “We are thrilled to welcome Brenna as our next artistic leader, and are certain she will lead us in continuing our legacy of producing ambitious, risk-taking, and artistcentered work. She brings a background in music and theatre, possesses a strong artistic point of view, and has an ability to translate this view into innovative and engaging performances and seasons. She is uniquely positioned to take us forward as a Company, and we are excited to welcome her on board.”

Corner has worked across the United States, Canada, and Europe at some of the most important opera houses including the Washington National Opera, the Glimmerglass Festival, the Vancouver Opera, the Calgary Opera, the Israeli Opera, the Dallas Opera, the Atlanta Opera, Kentucky Opera. Corner co-founded Manitoba Underground Opera in Winnipeg and has served as the Artistic Director of Fraser Lyric Opera in Prince George B.C. A.
