Pacfic Opera To Tour New Opera ‘Missing’

“Missing” is set to go on tour in November 2019. The work, created by BC’s foremost Indigenous playwright and filmmaker Marie Clements features music by Juno award-winning composer Brian Current.

The opera will be presented on Nov. 1 and 2, 2019 at Pacific Opera’s Baumann Centre in Victoria, followed by performances on Nov. 8 and 9 in Regina and Nov. 15, 16, and 17 in Prince George.

Co-produced and developed by Pacific Opera Victoria and City Opera Vancouver, the opera, which gives voice to the story of missing and murdered Indigenous women, had its world premiere in Vancouver and Victoria in 2017 to sold-out performances.

The opera will star mezzo-soprano Rose-Ellen Nichols, mezzo soprano Marion Newman, soprano Caitlin Wood, Heather Molloy, tenor Jan van der Hooft, baritone Kyle Lehmann, and soprano Joanna Burt.

“Missing” will be directed by Peter Hinton, and conducted by Timothy Long, Music Director of Opera at the Eastman School of Music. Scenic and projection design will be by Andy Moro with costume design by Carmen Thompson, lighting by John Webber, and sound design by Sandy Scofield.

For this upcoming tour the Pacific Opera Victoria and City Opera Vancouver will partner with the Regina Symphony Orchestra, Prince George Symphony orchestra, Victoria Native Friendship Centre, Prince George Native Friendship Centre, and Regina Treaty/Status Indian Services, to remount “Missing.”
