Pablo Urbina Named Principal Conductor of Orquestra do Algarve
By Francisco SalazarPablo Urbina has been named Principal Conductor of the Orquestra do Algarve.
In a statement, “I sincerely appreciate that a Portuguese orchestra opts for a Spanish conductor to strengthen the ties that unite both countries. I am very happy to begin this new professional stage with the Orquestra do Algarve, an orchestra that has shown special affection from the first moment we worked together, at the end of 2023. Portugal is a country where I feel at home and where I believe I can develop the work that I would like to carry out as a musician and director of orchestra: bringing classical music to all audiences and really being able to change and improve society, measure by measure.”
Urbina is the Principal Conductor of the Orquesta Vitae in London and has conducted such orchestras as the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra, National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, Orquestra Sem Fronteiras, and Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras.
He is also the third prize winner at the Siemens Hallé International Conductors Competition.
