Österreichischer Musiktheaterpreis Announces 2024 Winners

The 12th Austrian Music Theater Prize announced the 2024 winners.

The ceremony which took place at the Wiener Volksoper on Sept. 1, 2024, saw Erica Eloff win the Best Female Award for her turn as Eva in “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” and as Marie-Marietta in “Die tote Stadt” at the Landestheater Linz and Michael Volle win the Best Male Award for his Hans Sachs in the “Meistersinger” production at the Weiner Staatsoper.

The Best Supporting Roles went to Kate Lindsey as Penelope in “Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria” and as the composer in “Ariadne auf Naxos” at the Wiener Staatsoper and Bruno de Sa as Aminta in “L’Olimpiade” at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music.

The Best Young Artist award went to Anina Wachter (title role in “Lakmé” at the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck) and Pablo Santa Cruz (Don Magnifico in “La Cenerentola for Children” at the Wiener Volksoper).

The Best Musical Direction and Best Overall Production award went to “The Greek Passion” at the Salzburg Festival. Finally, the Best Director award went to Stefan Herheim for “The Cunning Little Vixen” at the Theater an der Wien.
