The LA Opera has announced that Linda Shaheen and Gregory Nava have been elected to the LA Board of Directors. The election came on Tuesday.

Nava is an Academy Award, Golden Globe, Emmy, and Writer’s Guild Award nominee. He is best known for his Oscar-nominated film “El Norte,” for which he received a nomination for Best Original Screenplay, as well as for “Selena,” which he wrote and directed and earned Jennifer Lopez a Golden Globe in her first film role.

He has worked with a number of other major Latin American artists in the film world, including Jimmy Smits, Antonio Banderas, Edward James Olsmos, and Esai Morales, among others.

Shaheen has worked as AnnTaylor’s Executive Vice President, the General Merchandise Manager for Sportswear, and established The David & Linda Shaheen Foundation.

“I am thrilled to welcome Gregory and Linda to our board,” said legendary opera star Plácido Domingo, who is also the company’s Eli and Edythe Broad General Director. “Gregory is an important leader in the film industry and Linda has been a longtime champion of music and education in Los Angeles and elsewhere. The expertise and enthusiasm of these new colleagues will make our extraordinary company even stronger.”
