The Fundació Orfeó Català-Palau de la Música Catalana has announced the cancellation of the concert with the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique, Monteverdi Choir, and Cor de Cambra scheduled for Dec. 16 due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

“The Fundació Orfeó Català-Palau de la Música Catalana regrets to report that this concert, which meant the return of John Eliot Gardiner and his formations to the Palau de la Música Catalana, has been canceled due to the detection of COVID-19 in the touring group, and the increased risks of traveling from London during a period of exponentially rising case numbers of the new Omicron variant in the UK. From the OC-PMC Foundation, we wish a speedy recovery to those affected and we regret the inconvenience that this cancellation may cause,” said the venue in an official press statement.

Sir John Eliot Gardiner was set to conduct the performance of Berlioz’s “L’enfance du Christ.”

United Kingdom has logged over 77,741 new COVID-19 cases on Dec. 15, thus setting a pandemic record.
