Orchestre de la Suisse Romande Appoints Tugan Sokhiev as Principal Conductor

The Orchestre de la Suisse Romande Foundation has appointed Tugan Sokhiev as Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor.

Sokhiev’s contract will be for an initial three-seasons and will commence in the 2026–27 season. From the 2027–28 season onwards, Sokhiev will spend six weeks per season in residence in Geneva.

In his new role, Sokhiev will play an active role in shaping the Orchestra’s artistic direction, including participation in auditions and recruitment processes. Concert programs and touring projects will be developed in close collaboration with the General Management and the Artistic Committee.

The artistic relationship between the Orchestra and Tugan Sokhiev began in 2024 and has flourished through a series of memorable collaborations. Among the highlights include Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5 in October 2024.

Sokhiev has performed with the Wiener Philharmoniker, Berliner Philharmoniker, Osterfestspiele Salzburg, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Opernhaus Zürich.
