Opernhaus Zürich Cancels Performances until January

The Opernhaus Zürich has canceled all performances until Jan. 2.

The company announced that due to surges in COVID-19 cases and restrictions imposed by the pandemic, the company will cancel all productions scheduled for the month of December. The productions include Rossini’s “Il viaggio a Reims” in Christoph Marthaler’s production, as well as all performances of Handel’s “Alcina with Cecilia Bartoli in a production by Christof Loy. The company also announced that all tickets will be automatically annulled and refunded.

Additionally, the company also announced that since rehearsals for Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra” continued through the lockdown, the new production by Andreas Homoki and conducted by musical director Fabio Luisi will be broadcast on ARTE TV on Dec. 6. The production is set to star Christian Gerhaher, Jennifer Rowley, Christof Fischesser, and Otar Jorjikia.

The company will also continue to offer productions via free streaming on the Opernhaus Zürich’s homepage as a part of the oper für alle digital – replay. Among the productions that will be shown include Donizetti’s “Maria Stuarda” with Diana Damrau and Salome Jicia and Kálmán’s operetta “Die Csárdásfürstin” with Annette Dasch and Pavol Breslik.
