By David Salazar

OperaWire is proud to announce that it will be presenting the premiere of composer Georgia Shreve’s “The Art of Being Oscar.”

The original work focuses on the life of Irish poet and playwright Oscar Wilde and stars bass-baritone Brandon Cedel as the famed writer himself. Cameron Bartell will appear as Swinburne while baritone Tim McDevitt will be the Whistler and Reporter #2.

Additional cast members will include Alex McKissick, Heather Boaz, Carla Jablonski, and Anthony Pulgram.

Shreve also directed the video production.

“It is an honor to have ‘The Art of Being Oscar’ debut on OperaWire,” Shreve stated regarding the premiere. “This past season with the pandemic forcing the closure of arts organizations worldwide, music has been a constant source of inspiration. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share this work during this time.”

The premiere is set to take place on OperaWire’s YouTube channel (or click the link below) on May 15, 2021, starting at 7 p.m. EST. This performance will represent the first live operatic event to stream directly on OperaWire’s official YouTube channel.
