OperaVision Announces October Streams

OperaVision has announced the October schedule.

The theme of this year’s World Opera Day will be “Unboxing Opera’ and will take place on Oct. 25. It refers to the millions of videos where users unbox products in front of their camera, revealing the received object, analyzing and explaining it to their virtual audience.

For the month OperaVision will be “Unboxing Orpheus.”

The month opens with “Orfeo ed Euridice” from the New National Theatre Tokyo. Masato Suzuki conducts the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.

Streaming Date: Oct. 7 2022

The month continues with a 2009 production from the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. Featuring a young cast from the European Academy of Music, director Yves Beaunesne transposes the action of Orphée aux Enfers to the 1940s and spreads it over the four floors of a bourgeois residence.

Streaming Date: Oct. 14, 2022

Garsington Opera’s production of Monteverdi’s “Orfeo” will be streamed from the the summer of 2022. The production starred Ed Lyon and Zoe Drummond and was led by Laurence Cummings.

Ukrainian composer Borys Lyatoshynsky wrote “Golden Crown” in 1929, when the policy of “korenizatsiya” (going back to the roots) was allowed in the country. At this time, several operas were commissioned from Ukrainian composers and librettists based on Ukrainian history. In support of 21st century Ukraine, OperaVision presents an unprecedented international online co-production of this opera never before performed outside Ukraine.

“Orpheus” from  Opera North will be presented in a new production. Laurence Cummings and Jasdeep Singh Degun team up for the work.
