Opera Saratoga Unveils 2024 Summer Season

Opera Saratoga has announced its summer 2024 season, the first curated by new General and Artistic Director Mary Birnbaum.

“This season pays homage to Saratoga Springs’ history as a pleasure-seeker’s paradise, racing, and betting destination while looking to the future by pushing the definition of what opera can be – and how it can be made – forward,” said Birnbaum in an official press statement. “We hope to tempt risk-takers to the festival by dazzling with reinventions of two classics in addition to offering a totally bespoke creation that they can only see in Saratoga.”

The company will present “Così fan tutte” in a production by Gisela Cardenas. Ryan McAdams conducts a cast starring Aubrey Allicock, Nicoletta Berry, Julia Stuart, Anna Kelley, Maximilian Jansen, and Michael Hawk.

Performance Dates: June 28 – July 6, 2024

The company will present a world premiere by Composer-in-Residence inti figgis-vizueta.

“The Festival Residency with Opera Saratoga is an incredible opportunity to explore the expressive world of contemporary opera, a first for me as a composer.” figgis-vizueta noted in the press release. “My highly collaborative approach to music making is a perfect match with this development-focused residency and I’m excited to organically create a work alongside a talented creative team.”

Performance Dates: June 30 & July 5, 2024

There will also be a production of the musical “Guys & Dolls.” The cast includes Mikaela Bennett, William Socolof, Ariadne Greif, Shavon Lloyd, and Maximilian Jansen, among others.

Concerts

The company will also be teaming up with Juilliard for a recital series. First up is a concert starring baritone Shavon Lloyd.

Tenor César Parreño will also perform as part of the recital series.

Performance Dates: April 7, 2024

There will be a series of concerts exploring the creation of new vocal works.

Performance Dates: June 4 -18, 2024

There will also be a gala at Canfield Casino.

Performance Dates: June 9, 2024

Director George Miller, bass-baritone William Socolof, and pianist Chris Reynolds will present a workshop of a contemporary staging of “Winterreise.”
