Opera Wuppertal is set to present a double bill of “Erwartung” and “Der Wald” starting on April 7, 2024.

The Schönberg monodrama will feature Hanna Larissa Naujoks as Eine Frau. Meanwhile, the Ethel Smyth work, the first opera by a female composer to grace the stage of the Metropolitan Opera in 1903, stars Samueol Park, Edith Grossman, Sangmin Jeon, Erik Rousi, Mariya Taniguchi, Zachary Wilson, Nika Dönges, Mira Ilina, and Hak-Young Lee. This is the first time “Der Wald” is presented on a German stage in over 100 years.

The Double Bill is directed by Manuel Schmitt and conducted by Patrick Hahn and Johannes Witt. The production combines the two works as one overarching story.

The presentation will have a duration of approximately 90 minutes without a break. The production runs through May 18, 2024 for a total of five performances.
