Opera UCT to present ‘The Tales of Hoffmann’

Cape Town’s Opera UCT is set to present “The Tales of Hoffmann” this September.

The work opens on Sept. 8 and runs through the 10th at the Pam Golding Theater at the Baxtor.

The opera stars Luvo Maranti and Makudu Senaoana in the title role. As Nicklausse, audiences will see Christine Bam. Zizipho Funzo and Nontobeko Bhengu interpret Antonia, while ​​​Jodi Carr and Ellen Pretorius take on Olympia. Rounding out the cast will be Fanele Mkhwanazi and Molly Dzangare as Giulietta and Siphe Kwani, Aubrey Lodewyk, and Bongani Kubheka. Jeremy Silver conducts and Steven Stead directs.

“This opera provides an opportunity to showcase the talents of a wide variety of singers, musicians and theatrical artists, while offering a captivating and emotionally charged opera experience for audiences,” said Silver, who has led many operas in South Africa over the past two decades, in an official press statement issued by the company.
