Opera Tampa Announces 2019-20 Season

Opera Tampa has announced its 2019-20 season celebrating its 25th anniversary.

“We have such a monumental opera season to look forward to for 2019-2020.  We’re celebrating our 25th anniversary as the grand opera company of the Tampa Bay area with four extraordinary performances,” Straz Center President and Opera Tampa General Director Judy Lisi said in a press release. “We can’t wait. This season is designed to delight our long-time supporters, to attract new opera fans and to showcase the unique, superlative talent we’re able to present as a rising opera company on the international scene.”

The season will open with a concert entitled Viva Italia!: A Salute to Four Great Italian Tenors. The concert will showcase four young rising stars of Italian opera saluting Caruso, Pavarotti, Bocelli, and Lanza.

Performance Date: Nov. 30, 2019

Bizet’s “Carmen” continues the 2019-20 season with Maestro Jorge Parodi leading a cast that includes Catherine Daniel, Victor Starsky, Susan Hellman Spatafora, and Jean Carlos Rodriguez.

Performance Dates: Feb. 7, 8, & 9, 2020

W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan’s “The Pirates of Penzance” follows with Maestro Robin Stamper conducting. The cast will be led by Tyler Putman, Cree Carrico, and Gabriel Preisser.

Performance Dates: March 13, 14, & 15, 2020

Michelle Johnson  stars in the title role of  Verdi’s “Aida” with Deborah Nansteel, Adam Diegle, and Joshua Jeremiah rounding out the cast. Andrew Bisantz conducts the epic classic.

Performance Dates: April 24 & 26, 2020
