Opera Synergy is set to present Puccini’s “La Bohème” this December.

The Cardiff-based company, which was founded in July 2022, will present the famed opera at the Llanhover Hall Arts Centre on Dec. 20, 2022. There will be an additional showcase one night later.

The opera will be directed by Andrew Keates and conducted by Sejoon Park, who leads a quintet in a reduction of the original score. Audiences will also see the Cardiff County and Vale of Glamorgan Training Choir.

The opera will be set in modern times and spotlight the current cost of living crisis.

“It’s an honor to be asked to direct Opera Synergy’s inaugural production of La Bohème and I’m especially inspired to explore how many of the issues faced by characters created in the 1890s are still crippling vulnerable people and artists today,” said Keates in an official press statement issued by the company.
