Opera Southwest Announces 2022-23 Season

Opera Southwest has announced its 2022-23 season with four productions.

Louise Bertin, Eugène Scribe and E. Mazares’s “Le loup-garou” will be conducted by Anthony Barrese and directed by Elizabeth Margolius.

The opera will be showcased at the Albuquerque Museum’s amphitheater and stars Michael Rodriguez, Miguel Pedroza, Thomas Drew, Yejin Lee, and Melanie Ashkar.

The opera, which premiered in 1827 at the Opéra Comique and was one of the first composed by a woman to get professionally produced, tells the story of a supposed wolf that terrorizes villagers.

Performance Dates: Sept. 9-11, 2022

Anthony Barrese conducts Héctor Armienta’s “Zorro” with Octavio Cardenas directing. César Delgado, Laura León, Olga Perez Flora, and Laura Soto-Bayomi star.

Performance Dates: Oct. 23-30, 2022

Christopher Bozeka, Amanda Crider, Matthew Hanscom, and Lindsay Ohse star in Rossini’s “Le Comte Ory.” Anthony Barrese conducts Kristen Barrett’s production.

Performance Dates: Feb. 5-12, 2023

Michelle Johnson stars in Puccini’s “Turandot” alongside Zaikuan Song, Rodell Rosel, and Bizhou Chang. Anthony Barrese conducts the production by Xinxin Tang.

Performance Dates: March 12-19, 2023
