Opera San José To Present Puccini’s Madama Butterfly

Opera San José will conclude its 35th season with Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly,” directed by Brad Dalton. The production, which features set design by Kent Dorsey and costumes by Alyssa Oania, will run for six performances at the California Theatre in downtown San José.

Maria Natale will star in the role of Cio-Cio-san, alongside Dane Suarez and Derek Taylor, who will share the role of Pinkerton. Rounding out the cast are Trevor Neal as Sharpless, Renée Rapier as Suzuki, Mason Gates as Goro, Ben Brady as Prince Yamadori, Philip Skinner as The Bonze, Katherine Sanford as Kate Pinkerton, and Karl Kaminsky as The Imperial Commissioner. Joseph Marcheso will conduct.

A one-hour preview of the opera will be presented free of charge at noon on Apr. 2. The preview will be moderated by General Director Larry Hancock, and will include a lecture along with performances by the principal cast. Additionally, Hancock will present a free 45-minute lecture to ticket-holders prior to each performance.

Performances run from April 13 through 28, 2019.
