Opera San José & Symphony Silicon Valley Set to ‘Strike Up the Band’

Opera San José is teaming up with the Symphony Silicon Valley to present two concerts over Labor Day weekend.

“Strike Up the Band” will take place on Sept. 4 and 5 at the Tower Lawn at San José State University in California.

The first concert on the 4th will feature music by Gershwin, Sibelius, Gounod, Mozart, Verdi, Smetana, Puccini, and Lara, including numbers from such operas as “Roméo et Juliette,” “The Magic Flute,” and “Rigoletto,” among others.

Meanwhile, the second concert on the 5th will include music by Brahms, Borodin, Bizet, Puccini, Gershwin, Donizetti, Lara, and Tchaikovsky. Audiences will hear music from operas such as “Carmen,” “The Pearl Fishers,” La Fille du Régiment,”  and “La Bohème.”

The Opera San José’s 2021-22 season will feature “Mozart and Salieri,” “Dido and Aeneas,” “Carmen,” and “West Side Story.”
