Opera San José Launches Fundraiser, Celebrates Career of Larry Hancock

Opera San José presented its annual fundraising gala via Zoom on May 16, 2020, launching a fundraising drive to support the company. The event also celebrated the career of General Director Larry Hancock who is retiring from the company.

Per a press release, Hancock guided the company through 151 opera productions, 1,056 performances, and over 35, 000 hours of rehearsals.

“We all want to honor Larry’s legacy, and to acknowledge our incredible supporters who are standing with us during this extraordinary time,” stated current General Director Khori Dastoor in a press release. “Opera San José is delighted to offer its supporters unique experiences in appreciation.”

As part of its fundraising drive, the company is offering supporters with unique opportunities, including a private aria performed on a front porch or a personalized digital birthday song, among several other options. Moreover, all participants receive a cloth face mask handmade by the costume department of the San José Opera.
