By Logan Martell

Opera San Jose has announced the return of the Irene Dalis Vocal Competition.

This year’s competition will see talented singers from around the country sing with the OSJ Orchestra. The Semifinals will be held on May 18, and will be available to livestream for free, with the audience being encouraged to vote for their favorite. The finals will be held on May 21, at the California Theatre in San Jose, with tickets for subscribers available for purchase now; tickets for the general public will go on sale March 1.

“Throughout the years, these riveting competitions have showcased incredible talent,” says General Director Shawna Lucey. “I’m honored to welcome back the Irene Dalis Vocal Competition and know that our local audiences, as well as viewers around the world, will be looking forward to seeing the industry’s most exciting rising stars perform some of opera’s greatest arias.”

This year will mark the return of the competition, named after Opera San Jose founder and mezzo-soprano Irene Dalis, from its eight-year hiatus which started after Dalis’ passing in 2014. Opera San Jose honors her memory as they look to support the future of the performing arts.
