Opera San José Announces Cast Change for Tonight’s ‘Il Trovatore’

Opera San José has announced that soprano Mary Evelyn Hangley would be making her role debut as Leonora in “Il Trovatore” on Friday, Feb. 28, 2020.

Per the company’s official Facebook account, Hangley will be stepping in for Kerriann Otaño, who is ill.

Hangley, a recent alum of the Merola Opera Program and a graduate of San Francisco Opera’s Adler Fellowship, will join a cast that includes Mackenzie Gotcher as Mancrico, Eugene Brancoveanu as Count di Luna, Nathan Stark as Ferrando, Daryl Freedman as Azucena, Stephanie Sanchez as Inez, and Mason Gates as Ruiz.

Christopher James Ray conducts a production that is directed by Brad Dalton. This is the penultimate performance in this run of the Verdi opera, which was written by Camarrano. Opera San José is set to present one final showcase of “Il Trovatore” on Sunday, March 1, 2020.
