The Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège has announced that it has canceled concerts by Juan Diego Flórez and Jonas Kaufmann due to the COVID-19 measures imposed by the government of Belgium.

Flórez was set to perform on Jan. 8, 2021, alongside Christopher Franklin, who was supposed to lead Orchestra of the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège. Meanwhile, Kaufmann was set to perform on Jan. 10 alongside conductor Speranza Scappucci.

Flórez recently performed the title role in Massenet’s “Werther” at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and the roles of Nemorino in Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore” and Le Chevalier des Grieux in Massenet’s “Manon” at the Wiener Staatsoper. He was also featured in the Teatro alla Scala’s opening night gala.

The tenor is scheduled to return to the stage in the title role in Gounod’s “Faust” at the Wiener Staatsoper in April 2021.

Kaufmann recently performed the title role in Verdi’s “Don Carlos” at the Wiener Staatsoper, and the role of Florestan in Beethoven’s “Fidelio” at the Royal Opera House.

Kaufmann is slated to return to the stage in the role of Radamès for performances of Verdi’s “Aida” at the Opéra National de Paris in February 2021, before taking on the title role in Wagner’s “Parsifal” at the Wiener Staatsoper in April 2021.
