Opera Revue Revives ‘Ontario Place For(d) All’

By Afton Wooten

Opera Revue has rereleased its “Ontario Place For(d) All” video in response to continued controversy.

Nearly two years ago the company released its parody opera, “Ontario Place For(d) All” in protest of Doug Ford who has not backed down on the plans to build a spa center and large-scale renovations over the majority of Ontario Place. This iteration of the parody opera comes in response to Ford’s new tax plans and the Dec. 5 statement, where Ontario’s Auditor General, Shelley Spence, declared that Ford’s controversial Ontario Place redevelopment was “not fair, transparent or accountable.”

Alexander Hajek set this work to the duet “Crudel! Perche Finora,” from “The Marriage of Figaro.” Hajek performs along with, along with Danie Friesen, and Claire Elise Harris who will also provide piano accompaniment.

Hajek said in a press release, “Back in June 2023, we made a simple video trying to draw attention to the fact that Ontario Place was going to be destroyed, and the forest around it decimated. We took some ‘educated guesses’ about the why and how and it turned out to be sickeningly ‘bang on the money.’ It’s a hideous waste of public funds that are DESPERATELY needed elsewhere.” He continued by saying, “It makes us mad as hell and we’re not going to take it anymore. Also, we’re going to sing it with really pretty classical music underneath, so it doesn’t sound threatening.”
