Opera Rara Unveils Plans for Donizetti Song Project

By David Salazar

Opera Rara has announced the launch of the Donizetti Song Project on Sept. 9, 2023.

The project will feature Donizetti’s entire song output, around 200 in total, showcased in performance and recordings. First up is “Donizetti & Friends” at Wigmore Hall, starring tenor Lawrence Brownlee and Artistic Director Carlo Rizzi. This event will include songs by Donizetti, Rossini, Bellini, Verdi, and Schubert; it will also feature three world premieres by Donizetti. A week prior to the concert, Brownlee and Rizzi will record an album of tenor songs by Donizetti.

There will also be 12 salon concerts featuring emerging artists and eight album releases. Among these are recordings starring Ermonela Jaho, Michael Spyres, and Nicola Alaimo.

Opera Rara is set to release a recording of Donizetti’s “L’Esule di Roma” in Spring 2024.
