Opera Rara has announced it will be recording Leoncavallo’s “Zingari.”

The record company announced that it will record the rarely performed work and perform it at Cadogan Hall on Dec. 3 with a cast that includes Krassimira Stoyanova, Carlos Álvarez, Łukasz Goliński, and Arsen Soghomonyan. Carlo Rizzi, the company’s new Music Director will lead the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The new recording will follow the releases of “Il Paria” and Ermonela Jaho’s acclaimed album “Anima Rara.” It also comes following the cancelation of the company’s planned performances of Donizetti’s “Il furioso all’isola di San Domingo.” The opera was set to be performed on July 8 at Barbican Hall.

“Zingari” had its world premiere on Sept. 16, 1912, at the Hippodrome Theatre in London. The work would later be performed in the United States before becoming obscure. There are three known recordings of the opera.
