Most of the operatic classics have been constructed on recurring archetypes.

Oftentimes, these tropes are thematic. Nobility, magic, love, lust, vengeance. You know them, even if you aren’t always aware of them. But oftentimes they are also emphasized through specific musical structures. The tenor is often the hero and the lower-voiced character is more sinister. Or, there is always a pezzo concertato of some sort, a drinking song, an aria for a certain type of voice, or a prayer of some sort.

Well, now we want to test you to see how aware you are of these ingredients that make up many of your favorite operas. In this case, we are going to go against the grain and bring to light the works that actually move against these famed structures.
