By David Salazar

Opera Philadelphia has announced that it will live stream its performance of Stravinsky’s “Oedipus Rex” and Walker’s “Lilacs” scheduled for Friday, Jan. 21, 2022.

The showcase will take place at the Broad Street on both Jan. 21 and 23. The Stravinsky opera will star tenor William Burden, bass-baritone Mark. S. Doss, mezzo-soprano Rehanna Thelwell, bass Jonathan Lemalu, and tenor Matthew Grills.

Meanwhile, soprano Tiffany Townsend will headline George Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning “Lilacs.” Corrado Rovaris will conduct the double bill which is set to run for 70 minutes with no intermission.

The showcase marks the company’s return to Broad Street for the first time in two years.

The organization made the decision to live stream the event to “serve the widest possible audience.” To that effect, the live stream of the Jan. 21 performance will be free via operaphila.tv.
