Opera Philadelphia to Premiere ‘Soldier Songs’

By Francisco Salazar

On Jan. 22, Opera Philadelphia will present David T. Little’s “Soldier Songs” on its Opera Philadelphia Channel.

The work was filmed on location at the Brandywine Conservancy in Chester County, Pennsylvania, by the site of the American Revolution’s Battle of Brandywine in 1777. The film stars Johnathan McCullough, who also serves as director and co-screenwriter along with producer James Darrah.

Opera Philadelphia recently launched a trailer to promote the work, which was originally set to be performed as a stage production.

In a press statement, Little said, “This production really started with Johnathan; he approached me with the idea. He said ‘I have this idea for a ‘Soldier Songs’ production that lives in an Airstream’ …  then when the pandemic happened and programming had to get shifted around, Opera Philadelphia got involved, and now we’re making this movie, which I couldn’t be more excited about.”

“Soldier Songs” will be available on-demand from Jan. 22, through May 31, 2021 on the company’s operaphila.tv.
