Opera Philadelphia to Perform at Kimmel Center

By Francisco Salazar

On Jan. 21 and 23, Opera Philadelphia will present a concert at the Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center featuring Igor Stravinsky’s “Oedipus Rex” and George Walker’s “Lilacs.”

The evening will feature a distinguished group of soloists and will spotlight the Opera Philadelphia Orchestra and Chorus.

Each concert opens with “Lilacs,” a 15-minute work scored for a soprano soloist and orchestra. Tiffany Townsend will be the soloist for the work.

Meanwhile, the Stravinsky opera will be performed by tenor William Burden, Mark S. Doss, Rehanna Thelwell, Jonathan Lemalu,  and Matthew Grills.

Corrado Rovaris conducts both evenings which will mark the return of Opera Philadelphia to Broad Street for the first time in two years. The last time Opera Philadelphia gathered audiences on the Kimmel Cultural Campus was January 2020 for a concert of Verdi’s Requiem, also led by Rovaris.
