Opera Philadelphia Streaming ‘The Passion of Scrooge’

Opera Philadelphia is now streaming “The Passion of Scrooge.”

The feature film, which was made in 2018, was released on Nov. 4, 2022 and will be available through Jan. 8, 2023.

The opera was created by Jon Deak and directed by H. Paul Moon with William Sharp taking on the title role.

“Opera Philadelphia’s recent commitment to opera film makes their Opera Philadelphia Channel an especially promising platform,” Moon told OperaWire via email. “Although some other ‘Netflix-like’ classical music streaming video services (e.g., Medici or Marquee or IDAGIO) include opera along with every other concert genre, the Opera Philadelphia Channel is just opera.  Besides projects that grew out of their annual festival, most recently an acclaimed O22, they are curating a few more from around the world towards a vision of becoming the crossroads of opera film.

“I’m excited that ‘The Passion of Scrooge’ inaugurates their ‘Opera Philadelphia Channel Presents’ series, reaching a new audience and adding to this genre that is oddly still in its infancy.”
