Opera Parallèle’s 2017-18 Season To Feature Leonard Bernstein, Rachel Portman and Jake Heggie

Opera Parallèle has announced its 2017-18 season.

The season opens on Oct. 11 with an Up Close and Parallèle Annual Gala entitled “Make Our Garden Grow.” The gala will honor Carey Perloff, Artistic Director, American Conservatory Theater, Opera Parallèle Advisory Council Board Member, and Champion of the Arts.

It will be followed by a production of Academy Award nominee Rachel Portman’s “The Little Prince” conducted by Nicole Paiement. The opera will star Hannah Gonzales and Erin Enriquez alternating as The Little Prince, Aleksandra Romano, Kindra Scharich, Sabrina Romero, Maggie Finnegan and Samuel Faustine. The opera will be performed Dec. 1, 2 and 3, 2018.

On Jan. 18 and 20, 2018 Marcus Shelby’s “Harriet’s Spirit” will make its world premiere starring Tiffany Austin as Harriet Tubman and Christabel Nunoo as Modesty

 

In February the company will feature a double bill entitled One Story Two Operas. The double bill will include Jake Heggie’s “At the Statue of Venus” and Leonard Bernstein’s “Trouble in Tahiti.” Heggie’s opera stars Renée Rapier and Abigail Levis as Rose. “Trouble in Tahiti” will star Renée Rapier and Abigail Levis alternating as Dinah and Kyle Albertson and Eugene Brancoveanu alternating as Sam.
The opera will be shown on Feb. 15, 16, 17 and 18, 2018. The double bill will also include a preview on Valentine’s Day.
