Opera Parallèle to Present a Benefit Evening, ‘A Night at The Overlook Hotel….No Work-All Play’

San Francisco’s Opera Parallèle will present a benefit evening entitled, “A Night at The Overlook Hotel….No Work-All Play” at the Lodge at the Regency on April 26, 2023.

Inspired by the upcoming opera performance of Paul Moravec and Mark Campbell‘s opera, “The Shining,” the event will transport guests to the theatrical excess and luxury of the Gilded Age. The opera runs from June 2-4, 2023.

During the evening, guests will enjoy themed drinks and cocktails in a setting not unlike the one featured in the story.

L.Peter Callender, an associate artist at the California Shakespeare Theater, will emcee as the company honors Randall Kline, Founder and Executive Artistic Director of SFJAZZ.

Featured artists include soprano Kearstin Piper Brown, tenor Nathan Granner, bassist/composer Marcus Shelby, and jazz pianist Denny Berthiaume.

“Our organization is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what opera can be and bringing it to a broader community, so we are grateful to Randall Kline for fostering collaboration between artists of different genres,” said the general and artistic director of the Opera Parallele, Nicole Paiement in an official statement. She continued, “We are very honored to have such a vibrant palette of artists and this association with SFJAZZ.

“We believe in the power of music, the importance of telling stories and the ability of art to awaken consciousness, opera is for everyone, this is a guarantee so that the spectators of this event can be sure that they will find a successful production, like all those that have been presented since 1993, the date of the founding of the Opera Parallèle,” said Paiement.
