Opera Parallèle & The Transgender District Announces 2023 ‘Expansive’ Showcase

By David Salazar

Opera Parallèle and The Transgender District have announced that they will present the second annual “Expansive” showcase, featuring transgender and non-binary classical artists.

The event, which will take place on August 3 and 4 at A.C.T.’s Strand Theater in San Francisco, aims to celebrate the vibrant and vital transgender community and highlight their stories and artistry.

The lineup for this year’s “Expansive” includes singer Katherine Goforth and mezzo-soprano Nikola Printz, who will incorporate aerial performance into their work. They will be joined by harpist and multidisciplinary artist Ahya Simone. Also on the program is pianist Taylor Chan, with DIVAlicious Dreamgirl, Afrika America hosting the evening.

“San Francisco is so lucky to be the home of the world’s first and only legally recognized Transgender District and OP is honored to partner with them – to celebrate the stories and artistry of this vibrant and vital community. ‘Expansive’ encapsulates OP’s deep commitment to collaboration and in its second year, continues to grow thanks to new connections with the American Conservatory Theater and the Washington National Opera’s ‘True Voice Award’ for transgender singers,” said Nicole Paiement, General & Artistic Director of Opera Parallèle in an official press statement.
