Opera Parallèle Announces 2021-22 Season

California-based Opera Parallèle has announced its 2021-22 season.

The season kicks off with the world premiere of the orchestral version of Marcus Shelby and Roma Olvera’s “Harriet’s Spirit.” The opera will be directed by L. Peter Callender and conducted by Nicole Paiement. The cast will feature Tiffany Austin as Harriet Tubman, Christabel Nunoo as Modesty, Bradley Kynard as “Montgomery,” and the “Say Nothing & “Do Nothing” Choruses and San Francisco Girls Chorus.

Performance Dates: Nov. 13 & 14, 2021 

Next up is Lembit Beecher and Hannah Moscovitch’s “Sophia’s Forest,” which centers on an immigrant family’s search for healing. The opera will be conducted by Nicole Paiement and star Maggie Finnegan, Kindra Schiarich, Bradley Kynard, Virginia Ko, Samantha Fung-Lee, and Charlotte Fanvu. Brian Staufenbiel directs.

Performance Dates: Feb. 24 & 25, 2022

Closing out the season will be Philip Glass’ “La Belle et la Bête” starring Vanessa Becerra, Hadleigh Adams, Anders Fröhlich, and Shawnette Sulker. Nicole Paiement conducts a production by Brian Staufenbiel.

Performance Dates: July 15-17, 2022
