Opera Orlando to Launch Spring Masterclass Series

By Logan Martell

On February 11, 2023, Opera Orlando will launch their Spring Masterclass Series.

Held at the Broadway United Methodist Church, the series will open on with a class by composer and conductor Nicolas Giusti; the Roman-born conductor has led performances around the world and last appeared with OO in their 2019 production of “The Marriage of Figaro.”

The series will continue on Feb. 25 for a masterclass with vocal coach Massimo Iannone; known for his work internationally with training young, lyric voices, Iannone serves as vocal coach of the Puccini Festival Academy of the Puccini Festival of Torre del Lago Puccini.

The series will conclude on April 8, with a masterclass by conductor Joshua Horsch, two-time winner of the American Prize in Opera Conducting. Each event is free to attend and will be followed by a reception.

Horsch’s masterclass will come in part of OO’s More of the Mainstage series leading up to their production of Donizetti’s “La fille du Regiment” on April 21.

“Opera Orlando is committed to fostering and cultivating young, emerging talent and this series enables us to do just that,” said Opera Orlando’s education director Sarah Purser in a press release. “I am beyond thrilled to welcome three national and international leaders in the opera industry to work with our studio artists. I know this will be a formative experience for them, and an engaging and beneficial experience for those in the audience, whether they be students of the art form or neophytes.”
