By David Salazar

Opera on the James is set to partner with Liberty University in Virginia for a production of Gian Carlo Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors” on Dec. 8, 2019. There will be two performances of the work on that day.

The production will take place at Lynchburgh, Virginia’s Academy Theatre with Marco Nistico, the Opera on the James’ General Director, co-directing the production alongside Timothy John Williamson of Liberty University.

The opera will star Bowden Miller in his operatic debut as Amahl. He will be joined by soprano Samantha Miller, his mother onstage and in life. Other cast members will include E. Daryl Duff, Richard M. Jupin, and John W. Hugo as the Three Kings. Dan Suttles will conduct with Kaitlyn Collier as the accompanist.

“Opera On The James is deeply committed to engaging with the Lynchburg community, and we are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Liberty University for this meaningful opera,” Nistico said in a press release.
