Opera on Tap to Present ‘Black Renaissance: trauma, drama, and love’

By Francisco Salazar

Opera on Tap is set to present “Black Renaissance: trauma, drama, and love.”

The one-hour show curated by Joy Jan Jones and Victoria Davis was created for audiences to come away from an expected black history month experience focusing on three aspects of black culture expressed in three contrasting ways.

The first aspect is trauma in which creative artist, Rachael Harris focuses on how life with her parents shaped her into the premier audio/visual/production powerhouse she is today. Her relationship with Alice Coltrane is also explored, and how jazz influenced her trajectory.

The second aspect will be drama and it will be seen through the poetry and music of Joy Jan Jones. Finally, the third aspect will be Love which will be seen through a performance and discussion by Victoria Davis.

The event will be held on Feb. 27, 2021, at 8:30 and can be seen on operaontap.org.
