Opera Omaha Adds Performance of ‘El Niño: Nativity Reconsidered’

Opera Omaha has announced that it has added “El Niño: Nativity Reconsidered” as a special addition to the company’s 23-24 Season.

The performance will be held on Dec. 11 at the Lied Education Center for the Arts on the Creighton University campus.

Performed by the American Modern Opera Project, John Adams and Peter Sellars’ “El Niño: Nativity Reconsidered” celebrates Latin American poets and the voices of women through the nativity story.

In a statement, Allison Swenson, Opera Omaha General Director said, “We are thrilled to host the American Modern Opera Company’s performance of El Niño: Nativity Reconsidered’s “This work, which is particularly resonant during the season of Advent, features world-class artists and the profound music of John Adams, whose opera A Flowering Tree was produced by Opera Omaha in 2015 to great acclaim. This is a limited, one-time holiday opportunity, and we hope our audiences will enjoy this special addition to the 2023-2024 Season.”

Conceptualized by Julia Bullock and conducted by Christian Reif, the production also features performances by Jasmin White, Davóne Tines, and Kyle Tingzon.
